Brazilian superstar Neymar has broken his silence after being omitted from the national team squad, expressing his disappointment but sending a defiant message that his dream of playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains very much alive.

The 32-year-old forward was a notable absentee from the roster named by head coach Carlo Ancelotti for Brazil’s upcoming friendly fixtures against France and Croatia.

In an emotional response to the decision, Neymar admitted the news was a difficult pill to swallow but made it clear he is not ready to give up on his international career.

“Of course, I’m upset and sad about not being called up,” Neymar stated. “But the focus remains day after day, training after training, game after game. We’re going to achieve our goal.”

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star is pinning his hopes on the final squad announcement before the global tournament. “There’s still one final call-up left for the World Cup, and my dream lives on,” he asserted. “We’re in this together.”

Fitness Concerns Open Door for New Talents

According to sources close to the Brazilian camp, Neymar’s omission is primarily due to ongoing fitness concerns following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury. The coaching staff is reportedly keen to manage his workload, allowing him adequate time to regain full match sharpness before being reintegrated.

With the World Cup on the horizon, these friendlies are seen as critical evaluation opportunities. Ancelotti is using the matches against France and Croatia to assess a broader pool of players, with Neymar’s absence paving the way for emerging talents to stake their claim for a spot on the plane to the World Cup.

The snub places the experienced forward’s international future under the microscope. With the final squad selection looming, Neymar’s path back to the famous yellow jersey now depends entirely on his ability to prove his fitness and rediscover his best form for his club in the coming months.
