MultiChoice to shut down Showmax in strategic shake-up

MultiChoice has announced it will discontinue its flagship streaming service, Showmax, in the near future as part of a major strategic overhaul aimed at repositioning its digital offerings in a fiercely competitive global market.

In a notice dispatched to subscribers on Thursday, the company confirmed that the Showmax Board had taken the decision to wind down the platform following what it described as a “comprehensive assessment” of its future viability.

“Following a comprehensive review, the Showmax Board has taken the decision to discontinue the Showmax service in the near future,” the company stated in the communication to its users.

No Immediate Disruption for Users

Seeking to allay immediate concerns, MultiChoice assured its customer base that the service would continue operating as normal for the time being. The company emphasized that viewers would not experience any sudden loss of access.

“Importantly, at the moment there will be no interruption to your current service. You can continue streaming as usual, and no action is required from you at this time,” the notice read.

The company pledged to manage the transition carefully, promising to provide subscribers with ample notice and clear guidance before the platform eventually goes dark. “We understand that this news may raise questions. Showmax subscribers are a priority for us, and we are working on plans to ensure clear communication and a smooth transition when the time comes,” the statement added.
