Ghana unveils 26-Nan squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Ghana Football Association has officially unveiled a formidable 26-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. The release of the roster, which strikes a perfect balance between seasoned veterans and a new generation of stars, signals the Black Stars’ intent to make a deep run in the tournament.

A careful count of the final list reveals exactly 26 players across four key departmental lines, a slight adjustment from earlier provisional figures. The squad is built around a core of players plying their trade in Europe’s top five leagues.

Goalkeepers

Between the sticks, the GFA has called upon three shot-stoppers. Benjamin Asare (Accra Hearts of Oak) stands as the sole representative from the domestic Ghanaian league, providing a vital local link. He is backed up by the experienced Lawrence Ati-Zigi (St. Gallen) and Joseph Anang (St. Patrick’s Athletic).

Defenders

The defensive unit features nine players, providing immense depth and versatility. It is led by veteran presence Baba Rahman of PAOK. Notably, the defensive lines feature a strong contingent from French football, with Gideon Mensah and Marvin Senaya (both Auxerre) and Alidu Seidu (Rennes) making the cut.
The full backline includes: Abdul Mumin (Rayo Vallecano), Jerome Opoku (Istanbul Basaksehir), Jonas Adjetey (Wolfsburg), Kojo Oppong Peprah (Nice), and Derrick Luckassen (Pafos).

Midfielders

Ghana’s engine room is anchored by the class and experience of Thomas Partey of Villarreal. He is joined by Elisha Owusu (Auxerre) and Kwasi Sibo (Real Oviedo) in providing tactical stability.
The attacking midfield and creative duties are entrusted to rising stars Augustine Boakye (Saint-Etienne), Caleb Yirenkyi (FC Nordsjaelland), and the technically gifted Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, currently on the books at Leicester City.

Forwards

The strongest area of the squad is undoubtedly the attack, boasting eight players with blistering pace and goal-scoring pedigree. Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams and Leicester City’s Jordan Ayew provide the veteran leadership.
They are supported by a terrifying young core including Kamaldeen Sulemana (Atlanta), Christopher Bonsu Baah (Al Qadsiah), and Ernest Nuamah (Lyon). Remarkably, Antoine Semenyo is listed with Manchester City, adding further top-tier firepower. Brandon Thomas-Asante (Coventry City) and Prince Kwabena Adu (Viktoria Plzeň) complete the dynamic attacking lineup.

Analysis & Outlook

With a final 26-man roster now confirmed, the Black Stars are preparing to take on the world. The blend of Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 experience—combined with domestic representation—gives Ghana one of the most complete and dangerous squads in African football. All eyes will now be on Accra as the team ramps up training ahead of the global showcase in 2026.
