The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has interdicted five of its personnel with immediate effect for misconduct involving the unauthorised use of police uniforms on social media platforms.

The disciplinary action was announced in a press release dated December 16, 2025, signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah on behalf of the Director-General of Public Affairs.

The interdicted officers, whose ranks range from sergeant to constable, are:

  • No. 45545 G/Sgt. Samuel Agbemanyale
  • No. 50300 G/Cpl. Isaac Mpere
  • No. 51816 G/Cpl. Samuel Agbo
  • No. 56563 G/Cpl. Charles Oduro
  • No. 14494 PW/Const. Elizabeth Dicka Korkor

Interdiction in the police service temporarily relieves officers of their duties while keeping them as members of the service, subject to disciplinary regulations. During this period, officers typically receive a portion of their salary, often half.

The officers have been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for further investigation and appropriate disciplinary action. The PPSB oversees compliance with professional standards, investigates public complaints against officers, and handles cases of police corruption and misconduct.

Reinforcing professional standards

While the press release did not provide detailed accounts of the misconduct, the reference to the unauthorised use of the uniform on social media indicates a breach of internal guidelines on how officers represent the police publicly.

This action highlights the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to enforcing professionalism and accountability among its ranks. The move reinforces the Inspector General of Police’s dedication to maintaining discipline and safeguarding the integrity and public image of the service, even in officers’ personal online activities.

Through such measures, the service aims to promote accountability and strengthen governance within the Ghana Police Service.
