The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a four-day planned maintenance exercise that will result in temporary power outages across several communities within the Accra East Region.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, August 8, ECG said the exercise forms part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving electricity service delivery in the affected areas. The maintenance works are scheduled to run from Monday, August 10, through Thursday, August 13, with affected customers expected to experience interruptions between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm each day.

Monday, August 10 – Teiman, Oyarifa and surrounding areas

The first phase of the exercise will take place on Monday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas expected to experience outages include Teiman, Oyarifa, Mr Smith, parts of Ogbodjo, Tsmasiwaa Hospital, Ability and surrounding areas.

Tuesday, August 11 – Ashiyie, Dodowa and surrounding areas

On Tuesday, August 11, maintenance works will affect customers from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in Ashiyie, parts of Dodowa, Tobinco, Oasis Estate, Manet Junction and surrounding areas.

Wednesday, August 12 – Labone, Adenta, Madina and surrounding areas

The third day of the exercise is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12. The affected areas will include parts of Labone, Agbogba Zongo, Adenta SDA, Tot-to-teen School, Top Herbal Clinic, parts of Madina, Libya Quarters and surrounding areas. The planned outage will also run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Thursday, August 13 – Achimota School and surrounding areas

On the final day, Thursday, August 13, the exercise will affect Achimota School and surrounding areas. The scheduled maintenance period is again 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Background: Recent maintenance activities

The upcoming four-day exercise follows a series of planned maintenance works ECG has undertaken across the Accra East Region in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the company carried out a five-hour power interruption in the Airport area and surrounding communities on Sunday, August 2, to facilitate maintenance works aimed at improving electricity supply. That was followed by another temporary outage on Monday, August 3, affecting parts of East Legon, Okponglo, Frafraha, Ashiyie and surrounding areas.

The maintenance exercises are part of ECG’s broader efforts to enhance the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply across its operational regions. Similar planned maintenance works have also been undertaken in the Tema, Accra West, Ashanti, Eastern and Volta regions throughout August.

Customer advisory

ECG has advised customers in the listed areas to expect temporary interruptions in electricity supply while the maintenance works are carried out. The company apologised for any inconvenience the outages may cause and urged affected customers to make alternative arrangements and remain patient as the scheduled works are carried out.
