Boxing on the sand: ‘Best of Bukom 3’ to bring fight night to Laboma Beach on May 8

On May 8, the familiar sound of leather on canvas will meet the crash of ocean waves as LaBoma Beach transforms into an open-air boxing arena for the highly anticipated “Best of Bukom” event.

The matchup, which blends intense ring action with a seaside leisure setting, is expected to draw thousands of spectators to the shoreline for a day of local pugilism framed by sun-drenched sands and ocean views.

An Unconventional Arena

Organizers deliberately chose the beach to break from the traditional indoor fight night. The coastal environment allows attendees to enjoy the scenic backdrop while watching established names and promising newcomers from Bukom—a neighborhood long recognized as a wellspring of boxing talent.

According to representatives of Bishop Boxing, the location was selected to enhance the spectator experience, turning the event into both a sporting showcase and a community festival.

“We wanted to give fans more than just a fight,” a spokesperson said. “This is about celebrating the sport in a setting that feels like a celebration.”

Thousands Expected, Local Businesses Poised for Boost

Bishop Boxing is forecasting a large turnout, with thousands expected to attend. The projection reflects the enduring popularity of boxing in the region and the unique draw of a beachfront, open-air card.

Local merchants, food vendors, and hospitality operators are preparing for increased business, and the influx of visitors could provide a significant economic boost to the area.

Honoring Bukom’s Boxing Legacy

The “Best of Bukom” card is designed to showcase the depth of skill that has made the neighborhood a respected name in Ghanaian boxing. Featured fighters include established pugilists alongside rising newcomers who carry Bukom’s legacy forward.

Community and Youth Engagement

Beyond the competitive bouts, the event aims to strengthen community ties. Organizers have planned outreach and youth programs tied to the fight night, intended to introduce young people to the sport and promote healthy, disciplined lifestyles.

Residents and organizers alike view the gathering as a celebration of local pride and cultural unity, with boxing as the common thread.

A Memorable Day on May 8

As the date nears, anticipation is building for what promises to be a distinctive and spirited event at LaBoma Beach. With its dramatic scenery, deep-rooted boxing heritage, and expected crowds, the “Best of Bukom” is poised to be both a sporting highlight and a community celebration.
