The Member of Parliament-elect for the Ayawaso East constituency, is set to be officially sworn into office today, Tuesday, March 10. The ceremony, which will mark his formal entry into Ghana’s legislature, will be conducted by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

The swearing-in follows his decisive victory in the Ayawaso East by-election held on March 3, where he clinched the seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The election was necessitated by the passing of the former MP, Mahama Naser Toure, in January.

In a message shared on Facebook on Monday, Baba Jamal expressed profound gratitude to the constituents for the trust they have placed in him. He described the opportunity to serve as a great honour and pledged to work collaboratively with residents to foster development and build a brighter future for the community.

Baba Jamal’s victory was commanding; he secured 10,884 votes, defeating his closest rival, Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,009 votes. Other candidates in the race included independent contender Mohammed Umar Sanda with 1,885 votes, Kanor David with 104 votes, and Ibrahim Idrissu who polled 43 votes.

According to official results, a total of 16,928 valid votes were cast, with 120 ballots rejected, bringing the total votes polled to 17,048. With today’s swearing-in, Baba Jamal will immediately assume his duties, taking his place as the representative for the Ayawaso East constituency in Parliament.
