A simmering domestic dispute has violently spilled onto the public square, as former Western North Regional Minister, Joojo Rocky Obeng, finds himself at the center of a bitter social media storm following his decision to act as a surety for detained businessman Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

Miracles Aboagye was taken into custody by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over the weekend in connection with an ongoing financial investigation. He was subsequently granted a staggering bail sum of GHC 50 million—a figure that requires impeccable financial credibility from his sureties. However, while Obeng’s presence on the bail bond signals his confidence in the accused, it has opened a deep chasm in his personal life.

Maame Dufie, the mother of Obeng’s two children, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday to deliver a scathing exposé, accusing the former minister of rank hypocrisy and chronic parental neglect. According to her posts, Obeng had recently pleaded poverty regarding their daughter’s educational expenses.

In a response to a news card detailing her baby daddy’s involvement in the high-profile bail, Maame Dufie wrote: “Because he’s a Ken supporter and he’s losing credibility in the NPP now, he wants to ‘ahoshesh3’ (curry favor with) team Bawumia.” She highlighted the stark financial irony, stating: “He’s in court saying he cannot afford his daughter’s school fees which was 8,450 GHC by the way, but he can package himself to go and be a surety for someone else.”

The allegations did not end with school fees. In a disturbing twist revealing his current legal battles, she added: “Tomorrow we have court for the assault 9am at Dovvsu court, you people should remind him to show up before they give another arrest warrant for him.” This confirms that the former minister is dealing with an outstanding assault case at the Dovvsu District Court.

Maame Dufie did not hold back in her assessment of his character, bluntly labeling him a “deadbeat” father. She appealed to the public to hold him accountable for the wellbeing of their vulnerable household. “He’s a deadbeat to these 2 kids and he doesn’t take care of them. He has no moral right to slam anyone for doing their job when he fails at his as a father of a 9-month-old and 3-year-old,” she posted. She further pleaded: “You people should advise him to pay his daughter’s school fees and buy baby food for his sick child.”

The explosive allegations have rapidly generated widespread debate across social media platforms, with Ghanaians questioning the priorities of public officials who project unwavering political loyalty to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)—particularly between the Ken Agyapong and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia camps—while allegedly failing to provide even basic necessities for their own households.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Joojo Rocky Obeng nor Dennis Miracles Aboagye have issued any public statements regarding the swirling controversy. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on the Dovvsu court tomorrow morning to see if the former minister turns up to face his assault hearing.
