Spanish Coach Félix Sánchez Bas Attracts Strong Interest from Ghana FA for Black Stars Job

Spanish coach Félix Sánchez Bas has emerged as a key target for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as the search for a new Black Stars head coach intensifies, GHANAsoccernet.com can report.

The 48-year-old tactician is believed to have impressed GFA officials with his track record at international level, particularly his work with both the Qatar and Ecuador national teams, according to Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto.

Sánchez Bas’s name has gained significant traction in recent days as the association evaluates options to replace Otto Addo.

Readily Available

Sánchez Bas has been unattached since leaving Qatari giants Al Sadd SC in October 2025, making him readily available for a new challenge. His familiarity with international football structures and tournament football is seen as a major advantage, especially with Ghana preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Youth Development Pedigree

Before his senior national team roles, Sánchez Bas built a strong reputation in youth development. He worked within the famed FC Barcelona academy system and later played a key role at the Aspire Academy, where he contributed to the development of several Qatari internationals.

He also managed Qatar’s U19, U20, and U23 sides, gaining deep experience in nurturing young talent and implementing a clear football philosophy across different age levels. His progressive style and emphasis on structure have been widely praised.

Building for the Future

The GFA is understood to be keen on appointing a coach who can quickly establish a competitive identity while also building for the future. Sánchez Bas fits that profile, combining youth development expertise with senior international experience.

As the decision-making process continues, his candidacy is expected to be seriously considered alongside other high-profile names. The coming days could prove decisive as Ghana moves closer to naming its next Black Stars head coach.
