Salary demands become key factor in Black Stars coach search

Financial considerations are emerging as a major factor in the Ghana Football Association’s search for the next Black Stars head coach, GHANAsoccernet.com can report.

As the GFA evaluates several high-profile candidates to replace Otto Addo, salary expectations are playing a crucial role in determining who ultimately gets the nod.

Sources indicate that some leading foreign candidates are demanding significant remuneration packages, reflecting their experience and pedigree at the highest level. This has presented a challenge for the FA, which must balance ambition with financial sustainability.

The Association is keen on appointing a top-tier coach capable of delivering results at the 2026 FIFA World Cup but remains mindful of budget constraints and long-term commitments.

Negotiations with potential candidates are expected to involve detailed discussions around salary, bonuses, performance incentives, and support structures such as backroom staff and logistics.

Insiders reveal that while quality remains the primary consideration, financial feasibility could ultimately influence the final decision. The GFA is determined to avoid overextending its resources while still securing a coach who can elevate the team’s performance.

This balancing act has added another layer of complexity to the selection process, particularly as the FA works against time to make an appointment.

As talks continue, it remains to be seen whether the GFA will meet the demands of top candidates or opt for a more cost-effective solution. Either way, the financial aspect is set to play a decisive role in shaping the future of the Black Stars.
