Morgan Rogers has revealed that neither he nor his England teammates were remotely surprised by Jude Bellingham’s latest tournament-defining intervention, insisting the Real Madrid superstar is simply “doing what we expect.”

Speaking after England’s gritty knockout-stage victory over Mexico, Rogers lifted the lid on Bellingham’s unshakeable mentality, admitting that the 22-year-old’s ability to flip a game on its head in a matter of minutes has become the new normal for Gareth Southgate’s squad.

“Jude playing like a man possessed? Well, I told you that before,” Rogers said with a wry smile. “Honestly, there’s no shock in that dressing room. We see it every day in training, and we see it in the biggest stadiums. His performances, his goals, his leadership in key moments—none of us are batting an eyelid anymore. That’s just Jude.”

The Aston Villa forward, who has formed a close bond with Bellingham in the senior setup, offered a fascinating breakdown of the midfielder’s impact during what he described as a “patchy” opening against the Mexicans.

“He didn’t start the game well—I’ll be the first to admit that. He was a little loose with a couple of passes, and you could see him trying to force it,” Rogers observed. “But that’s the thing about him. Most players let that half-hour define their night. Jude? He just waits. And then, within five minutes of the second half, he put his fingerprints all over it. A crunching tackle here, a line-breaking pass there, then he’s popping up in the box to win the penalty. He took over the game in 300 seconds.”

Rogers expanded on the psychological edge that Bellingham brings, framing it as essential currency for any team with title aspirations.

“That’s the type of player he is—and that’s the type we need in big moments,” he stressed. “When things aren’t going your way, when the crowd gets restless and the opposition smells blood, you need your best players to stand up and be counted. He’s done that in every single game so far. Not just the goals—the tackles, the demands, the body language. He refuses to let us sink.”

With England now firmly in the latter stages of the tournament, Rogers made it clear that the squad draws its belief from players like Bellingham who thrive under duress.

“He’s not just a talent; he’s a reference point for us. When he picks up his intensity, everyone else follows. We know that if we stay in the fight long enough, Jude will find a way to put his stamp on it. That’s not pressure for him—that’s his fuel.”

The comments will serve as a timely reminder to England’s remaining rivals: for Bellingham, and for the men around him, these are not moments that surprise—they are moments they have been expecting all along.
