Kylian Mbappé stands on the precipice of football immortality. The 27-year-old French superstar has already secured two of the sport’s most prestigious individual honors this season—the LaLiga Golden Boot and the UEFA Champions League Golden Boot—and now awaits only the final confirmation of a third. If he lifts the 2026 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot, he will become the first player in football history to win all three in the same season.
The numbers are staggering. Mbappé finished the LaLiga campaign with 25 goals in 31 matches for Real Madrid, securing his second consecutive Pichichi trophy. In the Champions League, he topped the scoring charts with 15 goals in just 11 appearances—a haul that included a remarkable 13 goals in the league phase alone, a new competition record. His tally featured two hat-tricks and a four-goal masterclass against Olympiacos, with three of those strikes coming in the space of seven minutes—the second-fastest hat-trick in Champions League history.
At the World Cup, Mbappé has been equally devastating. He sits atop the Golden Boot standings with 10 goals in eight matches, two clear of Lionel Messi, who has one game remaining—Sunday’s final against Spain—to close the gap. Mbappé’s brace in France’s thrilling 6-4 third-place play-off defeat to England pushed him to 10 goals, matching the second-highest single-tournament tally in World Cup history.
This achievement would place Mbappé in a class entirely of his own. No player—not Pelé, not Maradona, not Messi, not Ronaldo—has ever swept all three Golden Boots in a single season. The Frenchman has already won the World Cup Golden Boot once before, in 2022 with eight goals, and would become the first player ever to claim it in back-to-back editions.
His 2025/26 campaign has been one for the ages. Across all competitions for Real Madrid, Mbappé racked up 42 goals in 44 appearances—25 in La Liga, 15 in the Champions League, and two in the Copa del Rey. Add his 10 World Cup strikes, and the total climbs to an astonishing 52 goals for club and country in a single season.
Only one obstacle remains. Messi, with eight goals, could still snatch the Golden Boot if he scores two or more in Sunday’s final against Spain. But even if the Argentine legend delivers a fairytale performance in what is expected to be his final World Cup appearance, Mbappé has already etched his name into the history books.
The Frenchman’s 10 World Cup goals also propelled him to the top of the all-time World Cup scoring charts with 22 career goals, surpassing Messi’s record. At just 27 years old, with perhaps two more World Cups ahead of him, Mbappé is not merely chasing history—he is redefining what history means.
Should Messi fail to score twice against Spain, Mbappé will complete the most complete individual season football has ever seen. The Golden Boot treble. A feat for the ages. A legacy cemented.
