Mahama attends Sassou Nguesso’s swearing-In in Brazzavile

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Brazzaville to attend the investiture of Denis Sassou Nguesso, who has secured another five-year term in office.

The ceremony follows President Nguesso’s victory in the March 15 election, where he polled 94.82 per cent of the vote, extending his decades-long leadership of the Central African oil-producing nation.

President Mahama travelled to the Republic of the Congo shortly after launching Ghana’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday, underscoring a swift transition from domestic policy engagement to regional diplomatic duties.

The Ghanaian leader is expected to participate in Thursday morning’s swearing-in ceremony before returning to Accra the same day.

The visit highlights Ghana’s continued diplomatic engagement within Africa and reflects efforts to maintain strong bilateral and regional ties among African states.

President Nguesso, one of the continent’s longest-serving leaders, has governed the Republic of the Congo for close to 42 years across different periods, with his latest electoral victory further consolidating his hold on power.

President Mahama’s presence at the ceremony aligns with customary protocol among African leaders to attend key national events, particularly presidential inaugurations, as a sign of solidarity and cooperation.
