Former Big Brother Naija winner Mercy Eke has set a clear relationship dealbreaker: she will not marry or date any man who expects her to cook for him regularly.
The reality television star and media personality made the candid declaration during a recent episode of the Toke Moments podcast, hosted by media personality Toke Makinwa. In the interview, Eke firmly stated that she only cooks occasionally—and only when she is “in the mood”.
“I can’t marry or date a man who wants me to cook for him regularly. I only cook once in a while when I am in the mood. If you want fresh food every day, hire a chef,” she said.
‘I’m Not the Woman for That Kind of Man’
Eke, who made history in 2019 as the first female winner of Big Brother Naija Season 4, themed Pepper Dem, did not mince words about where she stands. She stressed that love alone would never change her position on the matter.
“It can’t be me. Love can never make me cook for a man every day. I’m not the woman for that kind of man. There are other women out there who will gladly do that, which is fine,” she said.
The 35-year-old entrepreneur urged people to choose partners whose values and expectations align with theirs, emphasising that compatibility is essential in relationships.
“That is why it’s important to marry ‘who has what you are looking for’,” she explained. “So, if you marry me and you are thinking you don’t eat overnight food, it’s not me. I can’t cook every day”.
A Lifestyle of Independence
Eke’s comments come amid a period of significant personal and professional growth. The reality star recently completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom.
She has also made headlines for her lavish lifestyle. In February 2025, she acquired a Lamborghini, which she affectionately described as her “newest pet”.
The former BBNaija winner has previously spoken about her preference for shared responsibilities in relationships and has kept her current partner private. Her most recent publicly known relationship was with fellow reality star Ike Onyeama.
Social Media Reactions
As expected, Eke’s comments have ignited heated debates across social media platforms. While some users supported her stance on setting boundaries, others criticised what they described as unrealistic expectations in relationships.
One social media user wrote: “It’s common knowledge. As a woman, if your man has money, he’ll hire domestic workers to help around the house. There is nothing wrong with that”.
Another commenter, however, was less sympathetic: “I hope the younger ones don’t draw inspiration from charlatans like this who live in alternate realities”.
