The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has issued a strong rebuttal to a viral social media publication that he claims is spreading false and malicious information about the institution. The post in question, which Mr. Gyamfi attributes to IMANI Africa Vice President Kofi Bentil, alleges that a former bodyguard of the GoldBod CEO absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to the state body .
In a detailed statement, Mr. Gyamfi categorically denied the allegations, labeling them as “entirely false, malicious and deliberately intended to mislead the public” . He addressed several key points of misinformation, which he described as an attempt to erode public confidence in the GoldBod .
Key Rebuttals from the GoldBod CEO:
- No Financial Loss: Mr. Gyamfi stated unequivocally that no one has stolen or absconded with GH¢200 million from the GoldBod. He further clarified that the GoldBod has not lost any money in relation to the case .
- No Personal Connection: He emphatically denied ever knowing or meeting Dominic Bonsu, the proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures, who is at the center of the social media post. Mr. Gyamfi stated that Mr. Bonsu has never served as his bodyguard or personal security officer at any time .
- Regulatory Enforcement, Not Financial Scandal: The statement clarified that Dominic Bonsu Ventures is one of over 400 licensed Tier 2 gold buyers operating under the GoldBod. The issue stems from a commercial dispute between the company and a licensed Aggregator of the GoldBod . The GoldBod has suspended Dominic Bonsu Ventures’ license for breaches of its terms and conditions and violations of GoldBod trading directives under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140) .
- Legal Action: Following investigations, Dominic Bonsu has been arrested and remanded into custody by the High Court in Accra . The GoldBod is pursuing criminal proceedings against him for offenses under Act 1140, which are separate from the commercial dealings between his company and an Aggregator .
Mr. Gyamfi expressed profound disappointment, questioning the credibility of a senior lawyer and public figure like Kofi Bentil for sharing what he described as unverified and mischievous information. “The Kofi Bentil I know will not be this gullible, naive and reckless,” Mr. Gyamfi stated, urging Mr. Bentil to subject social media information to basic due diligence before publication .
The GoldBod has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, urging the public to disregard the fabricated claims and rely solely on information from its official channels .
