– Ghana has recorded a landmark achievement in its economic recovery, attracting US651.7 million registered in 2024, according to the 2025 Investment Report by the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPC) .

The 2025 report, themed “Resetting Ghana’s Investment landscape for unlocking opportunities in a transforming economy,” was officially launched in Accra today. It highlights the country’s strong comeback on the global investment map, driven by macroeconomic stabilisation and an aggressive strategy to court international partners.

A Turning Point for Macroeconomic Stability

The report describes 2025 as a turning point in Ghana’s investment journey. “Following a period of significant macroeconomic adjustment, Ghana has made progress toward restoring stability,” the GIPC noted. This sentiment is backed by hard data: the economy grew by 6% in 2025, up from 5.8% in 2024 . Headline inflation also plummeted to 5.8% from 23.8% the previous year, while the cedi appreciated by over 40% against the US dollar .

This economic turnaround has been vindicated by the successful completion of Ghana’s IMF-supported programme, transitioning from a financial bailout to a non-financing Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) in May 2026, a move designed to sustain fiscal discipline .

Breakdown of the Investment Boom

The **US1.4 billion, existing upstream petroleum companies injected US176 million in new capital .

A significant indicator of investor retention came from the Bank of Ghana’s macro data, which showed FDI figures rising to US$1.91 billion, driven predominantly by reinvested earnings (95.4%). This suggests that existing foreign firms are not only staying but expanding their operations within the Ghanaian economy .

Source Countries and Sectors

In terms of project numbers, China emerged as the top investor, registering 70 projects, followed by India (22), Nigeria (10), the UAE (9), and the UK (8) . However, when measured by value, the Cayman Islands led with US486 million .

The “General Trade” sector absorbed the highest number of projects (23), valued at US$733 million. This surge in investor interest is partly attributed to targeted trade missions across Asia and Europe, alongside strategic partnerships that have positioned Ghana as a commercial hub under the AfCFTA framework .

Future Outlook and Policy Reform

Beyond actual inflows, Ghana has secured a pipeline of US$11.48 billion in announced investments. GIPC CEO Simon Madjie highlighted that the country is now repositioning itself as a gateway for the continent .

To sustain this momentum, Parliament recently passed the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) Act, 2025, which repeals the GIPC Act of 2013. This new legislation is designed to modernise the legal framework, introducing mandatory ESG standards and halving the minimum capital requirement for foreign-owned trading companies to US$500,000 to attract more diverse enterprises .

As Ghana transitions toward a more investment-driven growth model, opportunities are expected to expand in agro-processing, manufacturing, and digital services. The government remains optimistic that these reforms will solidify Ghana’s status as the most competitive destination for long-term investors seeking access to both the domestic and regional African markets .
