EC officially declares Baba Jamal winner of Ayawaso East By-Election

The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially declared Dr. Abdul-Razak Baba Jamal, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Ayawaso East constituency.

The declaration was made late this evening following the conclusion of the closely watched by-election. Dr. Baba Jamal, a seasoned politician and former Deputy Minister for Local Government, secured victory in what was seen as a crucial test of political strength in the heart of Accra.

The by-election became necessary after the previous parliamentary seat was declared vacant, prompting the major political parties to field candidates and campaign vigorously in the constituency. Dr. Jamal’s victory allows the NDC to retain the seat.

Details regarding the margin of victory and the total voter turnout are expected to be released in the official EC statement. This win marks a significant return to Parliament for Dr. Jamal, who previously served as the MP for the area.
