Davido breaks silence on Grammy losses: ‘ I’m not discouraged’

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up about his recent Grammy Award losses, admitting disappointment while insisting the setbacks have not diminished his passion for music.

The multiple award-winning artist, who has received several Grammy nominations without securing a win, shared his honest reflections on the experience during a recent interview.

Davido acknowledged that losing on music’s biggest stage was challenging, particularly given the anticipation surrounding his nominated work. However, he emphasised that the outcome has not shaken his commitment to his craft.

While recognising a Grammy win as a significant career milestone, the singer noted that earning nominations on such a global platform remains a considerable achievement in itself. He pointed to the intense competition at that level, observing that many deserving artists walk away empty-handed.

The artist stressed that his focus remains firmly on creating music and maintaining his connection with fans across the world. He argued that true success cannot be measured by awards alone, citing consistency, influence, and the broader impact of his work as equally important measures of achievement.

Davido also suggested he feels no external pressure to prove himself, noting that his career has already delivered considerable success. For him, the creative journey and the ability to inspire listeners carry greater weight than trophies.

His remarks have drawn significant reaction from fans, with many commending his maturity and constructive outlook, while others expressed continued hope that he will eventually claim a Grammy.

The comments contribute to wider discussions about global recognition for African artists, particularly within the Afrobeats genre, which continues to expand its international presence.

As one of African music’s leading figures, Davido reaffirmed his commitment to pushing boundaries and elevating Afrobeats on the world stage, regardless of award outcomes.
