Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy and Colombian pop icon Shakira have reunited on the field at MetLife Stadium, sharing a warm embrace and playful moments during final rehearsals for Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final halftime show.
The duo, who previously performed together at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City, are set to headline FIFA’s first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show—a historic departure from the traditional 15-minute interval.
On Friday, Burna Boy shared a video on his X account showing the pair exchanging smiles, laughter, and a warm hug outside production trailers at the stadium. Dressed casually, the two artists were seen embracing as they fine-tuned preparations for Sunday’s spectacle.
“Sunday Prep! @shakira See you at the @FIFAWorldCup Final! Dai dai, ikó, dale, allez, let’s go!” — Burna Boy captioned the post.
Shakira also shared a rehearsal photo on Instagram, writing: “Getting ready for Sunday! @burnaboygram See you at the @fifaworldcup Final! Dai dai, iko, dale, allez, let’s go.” The post quickly went viral, attracting more than a million likes.
A star-studded halftime lineup
The pair will perform “Dai Dai” — the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup—a track celebrating unity through football while supporting the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
The expanded halftime show is expected to feature an 11-minute entertainment segment within a roughly 30-minute break. The lineup includes Justin Bieber, Madonna, BTS, conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus alongside Coldplay, as well as appearances from Sesame Street and The Muppets characters.
A historic first for Nigerian music
Burna Boy’s appearance marks a historic milestone—he becomes the first Nigerian artist to perform at a World Cup final halftime show.
Sunday’s final will see defending champions Argentina face Spain in a highly anticipated title clash. Argentina reached the final with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over England, while Spain secured a 2-0 win over France to reach their first final since their 2010 triumph.
As the countdown to kick-off continues, millions of fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting both the football action and the historic entertainment showcase that will accompany it.
