For one young football fan in South Sudan, the dream of sharing a striking resemblance to his idol, Vinícius Júnior, has turned into a heartbreaking lesson in the power of modern cosmetic procedures.
The fan, whose identity has not been disclosed, had long believed he was the Brazilian superstar’s spitting image—a source of immense pride and joy in a country where football heroes are revered. But his world came crashing down when he discovered that the Real Madrid winger’s famously distinctive features were no longer the same.
The 26-year-old Brazil international recently underwent a chin harmonisation procedure at a private clinic in Goiânia, Brazil. The non-surgical treatment, carried out by dermatologist Dr Alessandro Alarcão, uses injectable fillers to project, define, and add contour to the chin and jawline. The procedure took around two hours and was performed under tight security, with the clinic closed to the public to maintain privacy.
The transformation has been described by multiple outlets as making the player look “unrecognisable”. Side-by-side images circulating on social media show a dramatically sharper jawline and more defined chin than the one fans watched score four goals for Brazil at the recent World Cup.
For the South Sudanese fan, the news was devastating. The resemblance he had cherished was, in effect, erased overnight.
The procedure reportedly came just weeks after Brazil’s shock round-of-16 exit from the World Cup. Vinicius had drawn scrutiny during the tournament—some of it about his game, some of it, less charitably, about his appearance. He reportedly wanted to add more definition to his chin after being cruelly mocked over it during the World Cup.
Neither Vinicius nor Real Madrid have publicly confirmed the treatment. But photos taken around the clinic and shared by associates have left fans worldwide in shock.
One viral post on X summed up the sentiment shared by many: “The before/after pics are wild, barely looks like the same person”. Another fan joked that the “new Vinicius” hasn’t won a Champions League yet, playfully suggesting the transformation was so dramatic that Madrid had signed an entirely new player.
For the heartbroken supporter in South Sudan, the dream of being his idol’s double is over—replaced by the realisation that the face he once mirrored no longer exists.
