As the 2026 FIFA World Cup enters its knockout phase, a fascinating subplot has emerged around the Round of 32 encounter between Colombia and Ghana—one that revolves not just around tactics and talent, but around the colours that will grace the pitch. FIFA has officially confirmed the kit designations for the high-stakes clash, and the decision has set the stage for a historic aesthetic moment.

According to the governing body’s colour allocation, Colombia, as the designated home team, will take the field in their iconic primary yellow kit. The South American side will complete the look with blue shorts and red socks—a full tricolour combination that evokes the nation’s flag. Remarkably, this will mark the first time since the 1998 World Cup in France that Colombia has worn this complete yellow-blue-red ensemble in a World Cup match. Throughout the tournament thus far, Colombia had rotated through four different kit combinations across their group-stage fixtures, but this latest designation finally delivers the full classic look envisioned by the kit manufacturer.

For Ghana, the confirmation brings an opportunity that fans have been eagerly awaiting. To avoid a colour clash with Colombia’s dominant yellow, the Black Stars will set aside their yellow away strip and instead wear their all-white uniforms. This means Ghana is highly likely to debut their newly unveiled traditional white home jersey—the striking Puma-designed “Ananse” kit inspired by the legendary spider figure of West African folklore.

The Ananse jersey, which has generated significant buzz since its reveal, features a pristine white base adorned with a distinctive cobweb pattern across the chest, paying homage to Kwaku Ananse—a symbol of wisdom, creativity, and resilience in Ghanaian storytelling. The design incorporates subtle geometric patterns in red, yellow, and green, representing Ghana’s national colours in motion. While the jersey has been widely praised and even ranked as the best among all 48 World Cup kits, FIFA’s colour designations for the group stage had prevented Ghana from wearing it in their opening three matches. Now, with the knockout rounds upon them, the Black Stars finally have their chance to showcase the culturally inspired strip on the world’s biggest stage.

The match is set for Friday, July 3, at Kansas City Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 PM local time. Colombia enters the contest unbeaten, having topped Group K with seven points from two wins and a draw. Ghana, meanwhile, scraped through Group L in third place with four points, booking their place in the Round of 32.

For Ghanaian supporters, the sight of their team taking the field in the Ananse white kit against a formidable Colombian side will be more than just a uniform change—it will be a moment of cultural pride, a long-awaited debut that marries tradition with the highest level of international competition.
