WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump marked the official start of the “Trump Accounts” program on Monday by ringing the opening bells of both the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq from the White House — an unprecedented joint ceremony for the two exchanges.

The accounts are established under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, recently signed into law. Under the program, eligible children born between 2025 and 2028 receive a federally funded $1,000 investment account at birth. Families may contribute up to $5,000 per year to the account, with funds intended to grow over time through market investments.

President Trump touted the initiative as a way to give young Americans a financial head start. “This is about building wealth from day one,” he said during the ceremony.

Prominent tech philanthropists Michael and Susan Dell were in attendance, alongside key members of the president’s economic cabinet. The Dells have previously pledged a $6.25 billion commitment to the program, which includes a $250 contribution to Trump Accounts for every child age 10 and under, regardless of family income.

The accounts are designed to be accessible to all U.S. citizens born in the specified window, with the goal of narrowing the wealth gap and encouraging long-term savings.
