Members of Parliament from the Majority Caucus have concluded a three-day retreat in Accra aimed at strengthening their legislative agenda and enhancing Parliament’s contribution to national development.
The retreat, which began on Saturday, February 7, 2026, was officially opened by the Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban S. K. Bagbin. It brought together Majority leadership and MPs for intensive discussions on strategies to improve caucus performance and deliver on the mandate entrusted to them by the Ghanaian people.
According to Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, the engagement provided an important platform for Majority MPs to align their efforts toward advancing legislation and policies that promote Ghana’s development. “Today’s Majority Caucus Retreat provided a valuable opportunity for colleagues and majority leadership to engage in meaningful discussions on strengthening our legislative agenda and enhancing our service to the people of Ghana,” Ayariga stated.
The retreat served as a critical platform to reflect, strategize, and reaffirm the caucus’s shared commitment to effective leadership, unity, and delivering on the mandate entrusted to them by the Ghanaian people.
Key Participants and Presentations
The retreat was attended by senior government officials who briefed MPs on developments within their respective sectors. Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza, Health Minister Kwabena Minta Akandoh, and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu were all in attendance. The Ministers for Health and Roads and Highways took the opportunity to brief Members of Parliament on ongoing work and developments within their sectors.
Also present was the Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy policy, Goosie Tannoh, who engaged members in discussions aimed at enhancing legislative coordination and advancing the policy’s key priorities. The MPs were led by the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, who used the session to reflect on the work of the caucus, assess its priorities, and develop strategies to improve legislative efficiency and oversight.
Commitment to National Interest
The retreat also focused on reinforcing unity within the caucus and reaffirming members’ commitment to providing effective leadership in Parliament. The caucus reiterated its commitment to working in the national interest by supporting initiatives that foster economic growth, improve governance, and enhance the welfare of Ghanaians.
Members pledged to continue collaborating to ensure Parliament effectively discharges its constitutional responsibilities while responding to the needs and aspirations of the public.
“Together, we remain focused on advancing the work of Parliament in the national interest and promoting the development and progress of our nation,” Ayariga added.
The retreat underscores the Majority Caucus’s determination to provide effective leadership and deliver on its legislative priorities as Parliament continues its work in the national interest.
