In a show of magnanimity and sportsmanship, President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), Frederick Lartey Otu, has extended a warm message of congratulations to his former Vice President, who recently contested against him for the federation’s top leadership position.

In a statement released by the GTF, President Otu praised the courage of his opponent, acknowledging the difficulty of challenging a sitting President.

“To my former Vice President and contestant for the President position, I want to say ayekoo,” Lartey Otu stated. “It is not easy. Not everyone has the confidence to step forward and say, ‘I want to contest my President.'”

He further commended the organizational skills and dedication shown by his former deputy throughout their tenure, noting that their previous collaboration has laid a strong foundation for the federation’s growth. “He has done well as a former Vice President, and our democracy will embrace that,” the GTF chief said.

Emphasizing that the election was a strengthening exercise for the federation rather than a source of division, Lartey Otu called for a renewed spirit of collaboration. He urged all stakeholders to focus on the collective development of Taekwondo in the country.

“Going forward, we will work together as a team,” he concluded, signaling his readiness to unite all sides for the betterment of the sport. The statement serves as a major step toward reconciliation and unity within the GTF executive board as they prepare for upcoming events and initiatives.
