Ghana’s cycling calendar is poised for its most ambitious season in years, with a robust lineup of criteriums, stage races, and community rides scheduled from July through November 2026, officials have confirmed.

The expanded season, anchored by the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), represents a strategic push to elevate cycling into a mainstream spectator sport ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. A growing network of private and diaspora-backed partners has rallied behind the initiative, signaling renewed confidence in the sport’s domestic growth trajectory.

The calendar offers a dynamic blend of high-speed criteriums designed for public entertainment, grueling multi-day stage races that test endurance across Ghana’s diverse terrain, and community festival rides aimed at expanding the sport’s grassroots base.

Bahati Cycling Classic to Kick Off Season in Accra

The season’s marquee early fixture, the Bahati Cycling Classic, descends on Accra on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with the Accra Sports Stadium serving as the venue for this elite invitational criterium. The event is organized under the GCF banner and powered by the Bahati Foundation, in partnership with Cycle Ghana and Ride Afrique.

The Bahati Foundation, founded by American professional cyclist Rahsaan Bahati, has been instrumental in Ghana’s cycling development for several years, including significant support for the GCF’s national junior team program.

Corporate partners for the Classic include Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Zwift, Giant Bicycles, and Promasidor, alongside government partners such as the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Olympic Committee, and Visit Ghana.

Tour Du Ghana Returns for Landmark November Edition

The GCF’s flagship event, the Tour Du Ghana, is confirmed to run from November 12-23, 2026. The race has steadily grown in international prestige, with its most recent edition—the 10th—attracting cyclists from 12 international clubs representing eight countries across five continents. That race, which ran from November 13-24, 2025, received the formal endorsement of President John Dramani Mahama.

Last year’s edition, held under the theme “The Black Star Experience,” merged sport, culture, and tourism to position Ghana as Africa’s cycling hub, with stages weaving through Greater Accra, the Volta Region, and the Eastern Region. The GCF has consistently framed the Tour as a preparatory platform for Ghanaian cyclists targeting the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Traditional authorities have played an increasingly prominent role in hosting stages, with the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, and the Akwamuhene, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, offering royal receptions and support along the route during the last edition.

Corporate backing has scaled alongside the race’s ambitions. Sponsors for the most recent edition included Dot.Ateliers as headline partner, alongside MTN, Stanbic Bank, Twellium Industries, SAS Financial Services, Prudential Life Insurance, and DHL.

Full Season Calendar Reflects Growing Momentum

Beyond the two headline fixtures, the 2026 calendar—circulated among clubs and stakeholders—includes a broad spread of races, criteriums, and community rides spanning July through November. These events include the Duku Race and Duku Festival Cycling, the 3FM Tour Du Ghana, an extended Cycling League running through August, the Teshie Homowo ride, PruRide, and the Osagyefo Criterium in September.

The calendar reflects a deliberate strategy of integrating cycling into Ghana’s festival and cultural calendar, using existing celebrations—Homowo among them—as natural gathering points for cycling participation.

Sport in Transition

Taken together, the calendar illustrates a sport in transition—evolving from a scattering of independently organized rides to a more coordinated season stretching across nearly five months. The mix of formats is strategic: criteriums like the Bahati Classic and the Osagyefo event are built for spectacle, designed to draw casual fans with fast-paced action, while multi-day stage races like the Tour Du Ghana test endurance and attract international teams and sponsors.

For Ghana’s cycling community, the 2026 season represents more than a schedule of races—it signals a maturing sport with growing institutional support, international partnerships, and an eye on the global stage.
