The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has held a lengthy and productive meeting with the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr Christian Rogg, at the High Commissioner’s residence in Accra.
The discussions focused on further strengthening the strong bilateral sports cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom. Discussions also touched on mutual support, joint sports programmes, infrastructure development, and technical assistance for Ghanaian athletes, coaches, and administrators.
The NSA continues to seek strategic leads and expert advice from the UK to enhance existing sports facilities across the country. The UK has previously demonstrated commitment in this area, with the High Commissioner touring a number of sports facilities under the NSA including the Kumasi Baba Yara and the Accra Sports Stadium.
The two sides also explored avenues for joint sports programmes, building on the success of the inaugural UK-Ghana Sports Day held at the Accra Sports Stadium on 25 November 2025. That landmark event, organised by the British High Commission in conjunction with the NSA and UK business partners, showcased more than twenty sporting disciplines and attracted hundreds of spectators, athletes, and officials. The NSA has expressed appreciation for the UK’s continued support towards sports development and looks forward to deeper collaboration in facility management and youth sports initiatives.
The meeting also touched on technical support for Ghanaian sports personnel, including athletes, coaches, and administrators, as both nations prepare for major upcoming sporting events, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Dr Rogg has previously expressed optimism about Ghana’s performance at the Games and praised the country’s commitment to youth sports development.
The engagement underscores the growing sports diplomacy between Ghana and the United Kingdom, building on a series of recent collaborations, including the Commonwealth Games Business Forum hosted by the British High Commission to position local companies to tap into opportunities linked to the 2026 Games and beyond.
