In a dramatic turn of events at the Kotoka International Airport, law enforcement officers have arrested Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, a businessman currently standing trial for theft and causing financial loss to the Republic.

Mr. Aludiba, who had been granted temporary leave by the trial High Court to travel to the United Kingdom for a few days, was taken into custody on Thursday evening following revelations of an alleged attempt to unlawfully access funds in a frozen bank account.

According to security sources, the arrest was triggered by Mr. Aludiba’s attempt to use deceptive means to drain his frozen account with Republic Bank. The suspicious transaction was flagged by the bank’s compliance unit, which promptly alerted the relevant authorities.

The accused was intercepted at the airport before he could board his flight, bringing his travel plans to an abrupt halt.

In response to the latest development, the Office of the Attorney-General has confirmed that it will, on Monday, file an application before the High Court seeking a review of the order that granted Mr. Aludiba permission to leave the jurisdiction.

State prosecutors are expected to argue that the accused abused the court’s trust and that the travel privilege should be revoked in light of the fresh allegations.

Mr. Aludiba remains in police custody as investigations continue. His legal team is yet to issue a public statement regarding the new charges.
